The Golf Day Was A Hole Lot Of Fun

Our first golf day was a success, and not only because the weather was great!

The inaugural With Kids Golf Day, the Alan Rough Celebrity AM, took place at Mar Hall Golf Resort and Spa on Thursday 29th May.

We were joined by 72 keen golfers who took to the course and enjoyed a fun day of golf, sun and a great lunch when they came off of the 18th.

A special thanks must go to all who attended and to who gave generously in the raffle and the auction as, all in all, the day raised in excess of £4000.

We would like to thank the following teams for their participation on the day:

  • Fatbuzz
  • The Forge Shopping Centre
  • Mark Hamill
  • Chattelle
  • WRI Associates
  • Primestaff
  • Excel Vending
  • Barclays
  • City Legacy
  • Mearns Castle Golf Academy
  • Kenny Hailstones. (With Kids Competition Winner)

We were awarding prizes to the two teams with the highest scores as well as a couple of other competitions because, although it was a day of fun and relaxing golf, everyone loves a bit of healthy competition!

The first prize of a Trespass Golf Bag went to Alan rough’s team, with the second prize of a Gordon White print and golf balls went to members of Cathcart Golf Club, so well done to these two teams.

As we said earlier we held another two small competitions; the Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin, and Kerr Mann was the longest driver who won a Trespass holdall, Mark Hamill being nearest the pin won a Trespass holdall too.

So again, thanks to everyone who came along; it’s always nice to know that you are better than a golf pro as 13 people beat the pro on the 10th hole!

If you want to attend next year’s golf day, or any other With Kids events then keep up to date by giving us a ‘Like’ on Facebook or by following us on Twitter.

My Journey Begins at With Kids, Glasgow

After recently moving to Glasgow from N.Ireland a few months ago, I knew I wanted to get involved in a local charity by volunteering!

I came across the With Kids website one day, and was immediately struck by their positive, vibrant atmosphere. Being part of a charity who are always enthusiastic about their work was definitely something that I wanted to be involved in.

My interest and experience in social media and online marketing meant that I was excited about bringing these skills into the With Kids team. Collaborating with fatBuzz alongside the charity enables me to contribute my own ideas about how we can reach more people.

I’ll be working on generating content for publishing online such as interesting articles, videos, information for blog posts, designing e-newsletter templates and banners as well as having fun, and enjoying the chocolate treats that often circulate the office!

Volunteering for With Kids is a great way to meet new people alongside developing skills and helping vulnerable children and families in the East End of Glasgow. I’ll be blogging about the exciting things I’ll be getting up to over the next while, and make sure to keep an eye out for a video coming up so you can meet me!

You can keep up-to-date with Heather and With Kids on Facebook and Twitter!

With Kids Ladies Lunch - 29Glasgow

With Kids would like to invite you to be part of our inaugural Ladies Lunch, taking place in 29 Private Members Club on Sunday 27th January 2013. With Kids seek to break the cycle of deprivation by intervening in the lives of young children with play therapy schemes that seek to strengthen their self esteem and bring out their innate gifts.

The Ladies Lunch promises to be an afternoon you and your guests will not forget and you will help raise funds for some of Glasgow and Edinburgh’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

The afternoon, hosted by With Kids Ambassador Kathleen McDermott, will begin with a champagne reception, followed by a delicious 2-course lunch, and will include entertainment by the fabulous Edward Reid - semifinalist on Britain’s Got Talent and tribute band Could it Be Take That.

The event will be organised by Fatbuzz in aid of With Kids, the charity that seeks to offer a new approach to help vulnerable children and families.

There are a variety of ways in which you can help. You could become a sponsor for the afternoon or you could take a table. A table for 10 is priced at £500 or individual tickets can be bought for £50.

The Kids Had a Ball!

The children at With Kids had an absolute ball at the Autumn Ball and Fashion Show and we just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to all of our lovely families who participated in our fashion show.

When the kids took centre stage on the night it really boosted their confidence and self-esteem, and their beaming smiles were evidence that they had such good fun strutting down the cat walk!

Firstly, we would like to thank our wonderful hosts, Kathleen McDermott Carberry and John Amabile, as well as Michelle McManus and Feeva for keeping us entertained!

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the fatBuzz team for organising and hosting the event, Cumbernauld College who did a truly amazing job with the hair and make-up, and Falk&Ross UK Limited and Ivy Kiss for donating clothes.

A special mention goes out to Alec from Falk&Ross for styling and for his endless patience on the night and April from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for her choreography!

Last but by no means least; thank you to the With Kids staff, volunteers, friends, family and supporters who all made the event possible. We couldn't have done it without you!

We put a little video together of the event, which you can view below. See if you can spot yourself, and remember to have a look through the photos on our Facebook page and tag yourself or anyone you know in them.

With Kids Edinburgh - Ladies Lunch

With Kids may have originated in the east end of Glasgow, however did you know that we also help vulnerable children and families in Edinburgh?

Thanks to Inspiring Scotland, who provided funding for our Edinburgh pilot based in Wester Hailes in the south-west of the city, we now reach even more vulnerable families across Scotland on a daily basis.

And on Friday 28th of September, we are hosting a Ladies Lunch at the beautifully restored Grade A Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh - where all proceeds from the event will go to our Wester Hailes Project.

The afternoon, hosted by Peter Ferguson of PDF Productions, will include entertainment by the fabulous Edward Reid, semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent.

fatBuzz, a social media, design, marketing and events management company from Glasgow, is organising the event and the champagne reception is sponsored by Inverarity Morton, one of Scotland's largest independent drinks suppliers.

There will also be an opportunity to shop from a selection of pop up shops including Nova Handbags and Orli Jewellery.

There are a variety of ways in which you can help. You could become a sponsor for the afternoon or you could take a table. A table for 10 is priced at £500, or individual tickets can be bought for £50.

If you are unable to attend, perhaps you could help in some other way? We are looking for auction and raffle prizes or maybe you would simply like to make a donation?

To book a ticket, or table, please email events@fatbuzz.com

You can now follow With Kids Edinburgh on Twitter, where you can keep up to date with our latest news and information.

We will also be revealing our new With Kids Edinburgh ambassador, who is an ex-Scotland rugby international, as soon as possible! Can you guess who it will be?

Kathleen McDermott Carberry becomes a With Kids ambassador

Kathleen was born and raised in the east end of Glasgow, although despite all of her success, she has remained loyal to the city she has spent all her life in, and to this day, still calls Glasgow her home.

To young people growing up in deprived areas, Kathleen is an inspiration. This is why she was invited back to her former school, St. Andrews secondary to speak to pupils.

It is also the reason why With Kids, approached her to become one of the charity's ambassadors alongside fellow Glaswegians, actor Robert Carlyle, and photographer David Eustace.

"I grew up in a stable background but a lot of kids didn't. There was no charity like With Kids back then. Now all i can do is raise awareness.

I am born and bred in the east end of Glasgow. I was raised in Barlanark, it's not the most glam of places. I still speak with a Glasgow accent and i am not ashamed of it."

On June 23rd at the Hilton Hotel a fashion show with a difference will help to raise funds for some of Glasgow’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children. The show will be organised by With Kids, the charity that seeks to help these children in Glasgow’s East End.

The With Kids Charity Ball & Fashion Show will be hosted by Kathleen McDermott Carberry, the Bafta Award winning actress who is herself a native of Glasgow’s East End. Kathleen will be joined on the night by John Amabile, the celebrity interior designer and television presenter.

A table of ten will cost £750 and we’d be delighted if you and your friends and clients could join us for a memorable night.  Drinks Reception, Dinner, Fashion Show, Auction, Entertainment. Tickets are available from fiona@fatbuzz.com.

David Eustace becomes a With Kids Ambassador - Part Two

In a few weeks time, one of the most unique and moving events Glasgow has ever seen will take place in the city this year.

On June 23rd at the Hilton Hotel a fashion show with a difference will help to raise funds for some of Glasgow’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children. The show will be organised by With Kids, the charity that seeks to help these children in Glasgow’s East End.

The show will feature clothes from Marks and Spencer and perhaps some exclusively designed t shirts made by East End children and their families. These children themselves will take to the catwalk to model the clothes they have designed.

In this way, not only will much-needed funds be raised for one of Glasgow’s most important charities but the children will be undertaking something that can empower them in a way that they have never before experienced. Owing to grinding poverty, severe deprivation and chronic ill health in their families, these children will never have had the opportunity to see an event such as this, far less participate in it.

With Kids seeks to break the cycle of poverty and deprivation in Glasgow’s east end by intervening in the lives of young children with play therapy schemes that seek to strengthen their self-esteem and bring out their innate gifts. The boost to their confidence and self-esteem will be incalculable and will help to change their lives.

The event itself will be hosted by Kathleen McDermott Carberry, the Bafta Award winning actress who is herself a native of Glasgow’s East End. Kathleen will be joined on the night by John Amabile, the celebrity interior designer and television presenter.

There are still tables available for this event. A table of ten will cost £750 and we’d be delighted if you and your friends and clients could join us for a memorable night.  Drinks Reception, Dinner, Fashion Show, Auction, Entertainment. Tickets are available from fiona@fatbuzz.com.

As most of you will know, we have recently announced the charity's newest ambassadors, this includes names such as Robert Carlyle, Kathleen McDermott Carberry, David Eustace and more.

In this part two of three videos, David talks of his fondest childhood memories, the benefits of With Kids encouraging children to be creative,  and how photography has helped him overcome his own difficulties, such as reading.

Keep following the With Kids Blog, Facebook Page and Twitter, for part three of this interview, and regular updates on what With Kids is up to.

Kathleen backs the charity helping kids where she grew up

Recent coverage from the Daily Record to help promote the With Kids Charity ball & Fashion Show.

When a casting director spotted Kathleen McDermott walking down a Glasgow street, it turned out to be the moment that changed her life...

The chance meeting led to Kathleen starring in Lynne Ramsay's Morven Callar, a role that won her a Scottish BAFTA award for best newcomer.

But Despite rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, attending showbiz parties and jetting to film festivals around the world, flame haired Kathleen never forgot where she came from and this never left her.

And unlike many celebrities who move away when they achieve success in the film industry, Kathleen 33, has remained loyal to her roots and still calls Glasgow home.

She's lived in the east on all her life and recently chose to build her family home in Gartcosh on the city's outskirts.
